I've been a huge fan of Tamagotchi ever since elementary school. I remember getting my first one and feeling so cool. I finally fit in a little with all the other girls in my class at the time (up until I ended up breaking it LOL.) I always admired how cute they are and found it fun to raise a little alien creature. It's so amazing how these little toys have evolved over the past 25 years, going from a basic LCD screen with one game and a few characters, to colorful, detailed graphics, increased customization, lots of cute characters, and more fun features.
One big thing that Bandai has been doing is collaborating with other trademarks such as Sanrio (BIG fan), Disney, Evangelion, One Piece, and others. I'm really glad that Tamagotchi's popularity has increased in the past few years, especially outside of Japan. Many Tamagotchi fans in the West actively seek out Japanese model Tamagotchis, despite the language barrier. I have quite a few Japanese ones; they're rather easy to play with, plus there are lots of helpful guides online!
It's also nice how there's an entire online community of Tamagotchi fans like me. We share pictures, news, art, customizations, advice, etc. There's even a small marketplace for those who are looking for specific Tamagotchis but don't want to pay those ridiculous scalper prices. All in all, it's fun, and I'm really happy to be a collector!
